Ivan Hess was Senior Engineer in Fluid Dynamics at the Roxxon Corporation and worked out on the Roxxon Gulf Platform. He is Mina Hess's father, and the two of them were close. She packed cookies into his lunch and never would tell him what the secret ingredient was. He survived the night the platform came apart, but he has not spoken or moved since. Eight years on he lies in a hospital bed, cared for and visited by his daughter, alive and out of reach.
