Hofund, often called simply the Bifrost Sword, is the Asgardian blade carried by Heimdall, Gatekeeper of Asgard. It is a weapon and a key at once. Set into its slot in the mechanism at Himinbjorg, the observatory at the far end of Asgard's Rainbow Bridge, it opens the Bifrost and throws travelers across the Nine Realms, and drawing it back out closes the way again. In Heimdall's hands away from the slot it is simply a sword, and a good one: the edge never needs sharpening.
