Denmark, officially the Kingdom of Denmark, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, a low-lying land of islands and peninsulas at the mouth of the Baltic Sea. The kingdom also comprises two autonomous constituent countries in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Its capital and largest city is Copenhagen, on the island of Zealand. During the Second World War, Denmark fell under German occupation, which lasted until the final weeks of the war in Europe.
