Dontrell Hamilton, who insists on being called Cockroach, is a Harlem criminal. He was arrested at his apartment by New York City Police detectives Misty Knight and Rafael Scarfe on a firearm charge he flatly denied, telling them there was no gun in the place and that he knew his rights, and his conviction was afterward declared null and void, sending him straight back to Harlem to pick his business up again. When Mariah Dillard puts her weapons up for sale, Hamilton is one of the bidders who pitch her at Harlem's Paradise, pushing for a controlling interest in her operation and arguing that a partnership between them could keep Harlem in Harlem's own hands rather than the Dominican Mob's or the Yardies'.
