The Chitauri Energy Core is the power source behind most Chitauri weaponry. Cores were originally found only in Chitauri hands, but weapons left behind after the Battle of New York put them within reach of people on Earth. A core can be pulled from a recovered weapon intact, and it turns dangerously unstable when exposed to radiation.
