He married Alisa Jones and the couple had two children, Jessica and, a few years afterward, Phillip, and the family lived together in Caldwell, New Jersey. Behind what his daughter took for a settled home, the marriage had gone sour: Brian felt small next to a far more intelligent wife, while Alisa felt boxed in by a husband who did not even let her drive a car and who made her turn down a job because he did not want to move. The family sets off on a road trip to a seaside resort called Love By The Sea.
