Billy Johnson is the elder son of Otis and Adina Johnson and the older brother of Tyrone. He looks out for Tyrone and tells him he expects him to grow up stronger and better than Billy himself ever was, and when Tyrone was about six the two played with their father's old voice recorder while Billy tried out a rap of his own making. One rainy night in New Orleans his friends Duane Porter and Rockwell want him along to take back a car stereo they consider theirs, but Billy turns them down, wary of what his father Otis might do if the police caught him, and tells Tyrone to head home.
