Axl Heimdallson is a young Asgardian growing up in New Asgard, the fishing-village kingdom the survivors of Asgard built for themselves on the coast of Norway. He is the son of Heimdall, the all-seeing gatekeeper of the old realm, and he has inherited a measure of his father's absolute senses: with effort he can project his sight and presence across vast distances, appearing to someone far away as a floating image, though the gift is raw and largely untrained. Born Astrid, he renamed himself Axl after the lead singer of Guns N' Roses, an enthusiasm his elders have learned to live with.
