107th Infantry Regiment

The 107th Infantry Regiment is a regiment of the New York Army National Guard with a long record of service in the United States Army across the twentieth century. In the First World War the 107th fought on the Western Front, where German mustard gas killed many of its men, among them Joseph Rogers. His son Steve grew up on the story of that sacrifice and tried five separate times to enlist in his father's old unit, rejected at every attempt over his long list of health problems. When the United States entered the Second World War, the 107th shipped out to fight once more, its ranks filled with fresh volunteers, including a Brooklyn sergeant named James Buchanan Barnes.
