Yakshaka

Backbone of the Thaumaturg army and the best known of that kingdom's creations, the yakshaka are giant soldiers armoured in mosaic stone shading from dark sea-blue-green to pale yellow-olive. Their helms cover their faces entirely, their gauntlets are made of the same material, and each carries a yataghan, a curved bronze sword with a flared tip, sheathed in wood at the waist. Inside every suit is a native of Jacuruku, taken in regular culls of the countryside for magical affinity, then turned to something like stone by alchemy and magic and stripped of individual will. Conditioned phrases can reset them so that a mage may reassert control. They stand motionless for as long as required and need no sleep, their strength and endurance enhanced, their first duty always the protection of the Thaumaturg mages. In battle they fight without a sound, unflinching even when wounded, and when cut they bleed black blood as thick as tar.
