Withal is a weaponsmith and swordmaker of the Third Meckros city, one of the wandering cities built out over the sea. He is a huge man, bald and muscular, with massive hands and wrists scarred and puckered with weals from long years at the forge. He is a war veteran and works hard at not speaking of it. He despises religion and hates gods outright, holding Ascendants to be worse than rabid beasts, as capable of appalling evil as any mortal and a great deal harder to be rid of. He keeps a number of boys as apprentices and speaks the Letherii trader language.
