A caustic sea like mercury on the northern border of Kurald Galain that dissolves anything entering it, source unknown, slowly expanding, and watched by the Wardens of the Outer Reach.
The Vitr is a caustic sea on the northern border of Kurald Galain, lying against the Glimmer Fate. It resembles a sea of mercury, at times calm and mottled and at times a raging storm that consumes the land. The air blowing off it stings the lungs, and anything entering the water dissolves as though in acid, solid rock included. No one knows its source, though some hold it is bound up with the Azathanai. The one certainty is that the sea is gradually expanding, which is why the Tiste Wardens of the Outer Reach keep a watchful eye on its shore.
