Unta

Unta is the capital of the Malazan Empire, an eastern port on the continent of Quon Tali and the seat of Empress Laseen's court. Its wealthy districts rise in painted spires and domes, decorative columns celebrate the accomplishments of the imperial armies, and its noble houses trace their lines back as much as seven centuries, some to the horsemen who first conquered this coast. The city gives its name to a craft as well: the empire's envied longswords descend from old Untan techniques and the red iron of the Untan Hills, still worked in the city's foundries. House Paran, the family of Ganoes Paran, keeps its estate in Unta, and vineyards and orchards spread beyond the walls of a city whose population is counted well above a hundred thousand.
