Tugg
A heavy infantry sergeant of the Malaz 14th Army out of Malaz City, axe in hand and a tin-sheathed shield across his back, with a thin grating voice and two fellow sergeants who could pass for his siblings.
Out of Malaz City, and big even by the standards of the heavies, Tugg holds a sergeant's rank in the heavy infantry of the 9th Company, 8th Legion of the Malaz 14th Army. He fights with a short single-bladed axe and carries an enormous shield of hardwood sheathed in tin and rimmed in bronze, strapped across his back when he is not using it. His voice is thin and grating, probably the result of a damaged larynx. He is one of three heavy sergeants, with Mosel and Sobelone, and the three of them carry a threatening air that has less to do with size than with attitude; they look enough alike to pass for siblings. Tugg is the largest of them and the younger of the two. When the sergeants of the reorganised 8th Legion call on Strings to introduce themselves, Tugg does most of the talking.
