Trate is a Letherii harbour city. The seven storey basalt watchtower called Tarancede Tower stands over the southern end of its harbour from an artificial rocky island, and the city is home to the Trate Legion.
The land Trate stands on belonged to the Fent and the Nerek before the Letherii conquered the region and built the city. Its market stalls occasionally turn up the teeth and bones of K'Chain Che'Malle, sold by people with no idea what they are handling. One of the city's Indebted, a young sailor named Udinaas, is taken from these waters into Tiste Edur slavery in the year 1148 of Burn's Sleep.
