A brash young Awl warrior who rode at Redmask's back when the war leader came home to raise his people against the Letherii, and who wore red face paint in his honour for as long as his skin allowed.
Cocky and young, Torrent rides with Redmask from the moment the war leader returns to take the Awl to war against the Letherii. He took to wearing red face paint out of solidarity with the man, and had to give it up when it left him with a rash. Scouting south ahead of the Awl march toward Bast Fulmar, he cuts the trail of a dozen or more men travelling on foot, tall and heavy and shod in moccasins, and no one among the Awl can say who is walking their lands, only that they are not Letherii. Redmask, judging the youth in need of taking down a peg, keeps him out of the coming battle and sets him alongside Toc Anaster to teach the Awl children the bow and the knife. Torrent takes the assignment as an insult, and takes the company worse.
