Topper is an assassin and the commander of the Claw, Clawmaster of the Malazan Empire, though Empress Laseen keeps overall control of the organisation in her own hands. He is a half-blood, carrying Tiste Andii and human bloodlines both, tall and lean and seemingly in his early thirties, with a long light grey face, white hair, and dark eyes set at strange angles. Kiska notes the hooked nose and goatee and the black glitter of those eyes, while Fist Gamet sees skin the shade of coal-dust marble and a broad mouth fixed in a half-smile. He favours shades of green, wears rings on every finger above and below the knuckle, and goes cloaked and hooded with a single long-knife slung through a thin belt. Pearl serves for a time as his favoured lieutenant.
