Toc the Elder is a Malazan commander of the old Emperor's day, remembered by his son as a man who called Dujek Onearm a friend and spoke of him often. He disappeared during Empress Laseen's purges of the Old Guard, at the time of the Emperor's own death. When the Adjunct Lorn tells Toc the Younger that the Empress regrets what happened to his father, the young soldier answers that he does not believe the old commander is gone.
