Tehol Beddict was a Letherii man in his early thirties, known about town as an idle fool, who lived in cheerful disorder with his manservant Bugg and schemes that were rarely as dubious as they appeared.

Tehol Beddict lives in the capital, and the roof of his house holds nothing but a bed and a low three-legged stool. He lies up there under a threadbare sheet, in a breeze that carries a faint reek of the flats on the south shore, with a plate of dried figs at hand that he eats without enthusiasm.

He readily concedes that he loves himself, and his thoughts wander from the cost of lamp oil, dear as the whales grow scarce, to whether anyone in their right mind should worship an empty throne.
