Taralack Veed

Taralack Veed is an outlawed warrior of the Gral and the sole remaining survivor of the Eroth bloodline. He grooms his swept-back black hair with his own phlegm, a gesture that briefly disturbs the flies crawling across his scalp, and on long crossings of the desert he recaptures and drinks his own urine. He wears a hooded cape wrapped around his upper body. He thinks of himself as possessing a viper's charm, alluring and mesmerising and finally deadly. He admires the old Malazan Emperor Kellanved for the thoroughness with which he rooted out and slaughtered the cults of Seven Cities, and thinks the present Empress too prone to mistakes.
