A northwestern people of Quon Tali, the Seti traditionally inhabited Por Seti and divided themselves into warrior societies named for the animals of the plains: jackal, ferret, wolf, dog, eagle and plains lion. Each society answers to an ataman, and communal decisions are taken at the Urpan-Yelgan, a high council of atamans and shamans. Centuries of war against Li Heng and the Quon city-states pushed their culture toward horsemanship, mobility and stealth, and Seti riders are prized as mounted scouts and skirmishers. Warriors tie fetishes of coloured cloth, animal bone, grass and leafy branches to armour and hair, a practice Fiddler judged a form of camouflage, and paint their faces with white ash, adding death lines before battle. Their coming-of-age rite, the Child Death Song, buries a youth alive in a hollowed log within the bloodline's crypt to sing through the night against the worms of madness.
