Scara Bandaris is a Tiste captain and cohort commander in Urusander's Legion, set in Kurald Galain in an age long before the Malazan Book of the Fallen. He counts Silchas Ruin among his friends.
His detachment draws the duty of escorting twenty-five Jheleck child hostages to Kharkanas under the terms that closed the Jheleck war, which keeps him away from the rest of his command through a difficult season in the realm. He is a soldier of the plainer sort, direct with his fellow captains about what he will and will not have soldiers do, and he holds that a commission is worth no more than the conduct of the men who serve under it.
