Nathilog
An island city off north-west Genabackis, once a pirate haven under self-styled barons and among the first northern settlements taken by the Malazan Empire, now a trading point for goods bound for Quon Tali.
On an island off the north-west of Genabackis stands Nathilog, with the city of Ayjhan on the far side of the same island. It was among the first of the northern Genabackis settlements the Malazan Empire took, and soldiers of the Malaz 2nd Army at the Siege of Pale counted veterans of that campaign among them. Before the conquest the place was notorious, a haven for pirates under self-styled barons, and before that a fortress of cyclopean ringed walls, thick towers and deep donjons: Sulerem of Mengal's Histories of Genabackis records a shipwrecked Seguleh being walked around those defences to prove the place could not be taken. Under the Empire it became one of the main trading points for goods out of Genabackis bound for Quon Tali, and its aristocracy was Talianised in full. Anomander Rake thought the conquest had improved it, and reckoned Nathilog and Genabaris could now both claim rivalry with Darujhistan.
