Moranth munitions

Moranth munitions are the alchemical explosives of the Malazan military. Supplied by the Moranth, the chitin-armored allies of the empire on Genabackis, the munitions are clay-cased grenades and charges produced in strict standard classes, from the massive cussers down through sharpers and burners to smokers, with no variation tolerated within a class. In a world without gunpowder they are a revolution all their own, remaking Malazan tactics around sappers who throw, bury, and mine with them; soldiers prize the munitions and handle them with dread in equal measure, since a dropped cusser forgives nothing. Crates of them are delivered to Whiskeyjack's squad of Bridgeburners for the work awaiting them in Darujhistan.
