Moranth

The Moranth are a people of the Genabackan continent and allies of the Malazan Empire. Their own historical annals run back some seven thousand years, and they divide themselves into colour castes, among them the Black Moranth and the Green.

The alliance gives the Malazan military two things it has nowhere else. The first is Moranth munitions, supplied by the Green Moranth and carried by Malazan sappers. The second is the quorl, a large flying creature the Moranth ride, which can carry a squad overnight across a mountain range that a marching army needs weeks to cross, though the crossing itself can be rough enough to toss quorl and riders about inside a thunderhead. The Moranth keep their own names for the outsiders they respect.
