Moon's Spawn

Moon's Spawn is a floating fortress of black basalt, a mountain hanging in the sky. Ragged as a blackened tooth and slowly revolving in place, it shows no construction on its exterior beyond a single ledge and a recessed door, yet a city lies within its hollow heart, home to the Tiste Andii and their lord, Anomander Rake. Because it flies, no army can lay siege to it, and its reputation alone turns enemies aside; even the undead legions of the Logros T'lan Imass are said to have been unable or unwilling to assault its defenses. It confronted the Malazan Empire once before, in the old Emperor's day, withdrawing then for reasons unknown. It hangs above the city of Pale, the anchor of that city's long defiance of the Malazan siege.
