He ran the island out of that fortress as a pirate king, seized ships in his own harbour and traded their crews where the prisoners fetched the most, and left a reputation for cold blooded killing in the accounts of the men who dealt with him. The gatehouse of his hold, the barrow that carries his name, and the vane on the wall all outlast him.
