Mallick Rel is a priest of the Elder sea god Mael serving as chief adviser to High Fist Pormqual, commander of the Malazan armies on the subcontinent of Seven Cities. A soft, fat man with heavy-lidded eyes, oiled colorless hair, green-dyed teeth, and rings on his soft fingers, he comes from the Falari isles and speaks in a hushed voice with a faint Gedorian Falari accent. His rise unsettles the soldiery: a foreign priest with no military standing, he has made himself the voice through which the High Fist hears the world, and the officers who meet him in Deadhouse Gates mark him as a man to watch carefully.
