Mallick Rel
Mallick Rel is a soft-spoken Jhistal priest of the sea god Mael and chief adviser to High Fist Pormqual, a fat, perfumed man whose swift rise to power the soldiers only whisper about.
He is sent to the Hissar docks to welcome the new Fist Coltaine on the High Fist's behalf, a gesture the historian Duiker reads as a calculated insult. His speech comes in clipped, sibilant fragments with a faint Gedorian Falari accent, his smile hides green-dyed teeth, and he ignores officers too lowly to be worth cultivating. Rumour holds that misfortune, often fatal, finds whoever stands between him and his patron, and Duiker finds he heartily dislikes him.
