Malaz Island
An island southeast of Quon Tali holding the cities of Malaz City and Jakata.
Malaz Island, also called Jakatakan or Malaz Isle, lies southeast of Quon Tali and northwest of Korel, and it is where Gardens of the Moon opens. Two cities stand on it, Malaz City on its harbour and Jakata, along with smaller towns and settlements, and its people run to thoroughly mixed stock.
Above Malaz City the cliff top fortress of Mock's Hold looks down on the bay, reached by a switchback stair cut into the rock face. The island's northern hardwood forests once held black furred apes, hunted out long ago. The Paran estates on the island produce wines good enough to export off island. Jakatakan pirates wear their hair braided and cut to a finger's length.
