Li Heng
Li Heng is a great walled city of central Quon Tali on the Idryn river, its ringed Rounds raised against the Seti plains and the beast Ryllandaras, governed under the Malazan Empire by magistrates.
Li Heng is one of the great inland cities of Quon Tali, the Malazan Empire's home continent, set where the Idryn river crosses the ancient Trunk Road between Unta and Quon Tali city. The city is famed for its titanic concentric walls, visible from a day's travel away, which divide it into ringed districts called Rounds; from a distance it resembles a layered plateau. Tradition holds the outer walls were raised against the Seti of the surrounding plains and the man-jackal beast Ryllandaras, and in all the city's history they have never been breached by direct assault. Its patron deity is Burn, the sleeping goddess of the earth. Under imperial administration a council of magistrates governs. Li Heng appears across the wider Malazan series, and Ian C. Esslemont's prequel Dancer's Lament portrays its pre-imperial days as an independent city-state under its Protectress.
