Kurald Galain

Kurald Galain is the Elder Warren of Darkness, one of the most ancient founts of sorcery in the Malazan world, named from Gardens of the Moon, onward. It is the warren and ancient realm of Mother Dark, and the magic of her children, the Tiste Andii, flows from it; Anomander Rake, their lord in Moon's Spawn, is its most feared wielder in the early books. To human mages, whose paths of magic are young by comparison, Kurald Galain is old, alien, and dreadful, and the sorceress Tattersail calls it the Breath of Chaos. Lore holds that it gifted the world darkness and night themselves. Those few who describe crossing it speak of a lightless, scentless country, utterly still.
