Kurald Emurlahn is the Elder warren of Shadow and the ancient home of the Tiste Edur. Some call it the Broken Realm. It stands shattered and abandoned after a sundering hundreds of thousands of years ago, and the Edur who once lived in it draw their sorcery from surviving fragments rather than from the whole.
Shadow carries a reputation among mages for slipping its own boundaries and breaking the rules other warrens keep. Its sky never darkens past slate grey, its air hangs warm and turgid, and it holds more layers than any account of it can carry. The human warren of Shadow, Meanas, is said to run riven through the Elder realm.
