Five hostage princes of the Tiste Edur, taken from subjugated tribes and stripped of their names, raised as Warlock King Hannan Mosag's apprentices in sorcery and kept always at his side.
Warlock King Hannan Mosag keeps five apprentices in sorcery about him, known together as the K'risnan Cadre. Each is a firstborn son of a chief subjugated in the Edur War of Unification, held as a hostage against his tribe's obedience. Their birth names were stripped from them; the Warlock King chose replacements in secret and bound those names with spells. Under his tutelage they are trained to return one day to their own tribes as chiefs whose loyalty runs to him before it runs to their blood. One or more of them stands silent at his side at all hours, and during council at the King's Meet they sit around him on the chamber's central dais, facing the assembled blooded warriors.
