Prince K'azz D'Avore is the commander of the Crimson Guard, named in Gardens of the Moon. The Guard counts among the great enemies of the Malazan Empire, and on Genabackis it stands with the Tiste Andii, the Rhivi, a Barghast contingent and the warlord Caladan Brood to keep the empire out of the continent's north.
He is reckoned one of the greatest tacticians in the world and a charismatic leader. Malazan officers sort their opposite numbers into cold iron and hot iron by the way they fight, and K'azz is judged cold iron.
