Karos Invictad

Karos Invictad is the Invigilator, the commander, of the Patriotists, the secret police of the Letherii Empire. He is a pudgy man who dresses only in crimson silks and has a taste for finery, and his voice runs high and climbs higher when he is agitated. Born into a family crushed by inherited debt, he failed as a young scholar and blamed an overabundance of emotion for it, saying feeling had left him unable to hold a cogent position and full of anger at himself. Only after he scoured that emotion away, by his own account, did his inner vision clear, and he set his beliefs down in a series of treatises. Critics answer that he is still the boy from those school days, evening a score. He rates humour a worthless waste of time, and collects difficult mechanical puzzles from across the empire as proof of an intellect he considers well above the common run.
