Jhag Odhan
A vast grassland plain where wild Jhag horses run, home to Jhag and Trell and to fringe tribes who hunt bhederin with half-wild dogs and lay their dead out for the crows.
The Jhag Odhan is a vast plain of low rolling hills, cloaked in prairie grass that stands as high as a Teblor's chest. Clumps of low bushy trees with dusty green and grey leaves fill its basins, and sage brush, cacti and grey-oaks grow along its dried-up riverbeds. It is home to the Jhag and the Trell, and to the wild descendants of the Jhag horses the Jaghut bred long ago. Bhederin and striped antelope range it, along with aras deer, tall honey-coloured wolves and jackrabbits. Tribes live deep in the odhan, hunting bhederin with half-wild dogs whose canine teeth are cut off when young; they drive hundreds of the beasts over cliffs, then set dozens of butchers to smoking the meat on racks. They know nothing of domesticated horses, use their dogs to pull travois, weave baskets rather than fire clay, and lay their wrapped dead on raised platforms for the crows. A primitive road runs into the odhan from Ugarat's west gate.
