Jaghut
The Jaghut are a long-lived, solitary elder race of the Malazan world, wielders of the ice sorcery of Omtose Phellack, remembered by humans chiefly through legends of their Tyrants.
The Jaghut are one of the elder races of the Malazan world. The scholar Mammot recounts how three races contended for the world in its early days: the Forkrul Assail, who withdrew first, and the Jaghut and the T'lan Imass, who warred without end. The Jaghut are long-lived, tusked, and solitary by nature, a race of individuals who fought one another as readily as any enemy, and their sorcery is the ice-aspected magic of the Elder Warren Omtose Phellack. To the humans of the present day they survive mostly in legend, above all in the dread of the Jaghut Tyrants, rare despots of the race who once enslaved whole peoples. Rumor of one such Tyrant, entombed in the Gadrobi Hills near Darujhistan, persists.
