The Imass are an ancient people of the age of ice who hunt the great herds and war with the Jaghut, and from whose Gathering the undead T'lan Imass are born.
Pran Chole of the Kron Tlan, who appears at a fire in Kruppe's dream, is a broad, gold-skinned man in deer hides with antlers rising from his cap, who names himself the White Fox and claims deep knowledge of ice. His people foresee a Rite of Imass and a Choosing of the Bone Casters. Tool, a T'lan Imass, admits that the Imass never grasped how power draws other power.
