Hood

Hood is the god of death in the Malazan world, present from Gardens of the Moon, as King of High House Death in the Deck of Dragons. His worship reaches across continents, and his name is the commonest oath in a soldier's mouth; Malazans swear by Hood's breath as easily as they breathe. The dead are said to pass through Hood's Gate, and his priesthoods and temples stand in most great cities. The god himself stays remote in the early books, a power invoked rather than seen, marked in readings of the Deck and in the constant small blasphemies of the living. In Gardens of the Moon an ancient tome names him, the grey wanderer of Death, among the entities present at a chaining of the Crippled God in a distant age.
