High House Shadow

One of the Houses of the Deck of Dragons, High House Shadow answers to the warrens of Meanas and Kurald Emurlahn. Tiste Andii legend holds that Shadow was born of the interplay of Light and Dark. Silverfox remarked that it had once been a Hold, and that it never shared the tidy hierarchy of the other Houses: bestial, a wilder place, and, apart from its Hounds, ruled by no one at all for a very long age before Shadowthrone took its throne. Quick Ben held that the true Warren of Shadow stayed shut to humankind for millennia, and that the earliest writings on the House put a Tiste Edur upon that throne. Oponn has no purchase in Shadow's realm. To readers of the Deck it is a young House, one that appeared in the cards only once the realm reopened, and its arrival troubled Tayschrenn, who judged it far too powerful to fade as other new Houses had faded.
