Hanradi Khalag is chief and warlock of the Merude, the most powerful of the six Tiste Edur tribes of Lether, a people numbering close to a hundred thousand with some forty thousand warriors among them. He has taken more trophies for his belt than any warrior in generations, though his skill with a spear runs well ahead of his strength as a warlock. He looks older than his years, weathered in the face, hunched at the shoulders, and rough of voice. His elder sister is a healer with several sons.
