A tribal people of the Seven Cities hills between Arifal and Pan'potsun, the Gral bargain without compromise, answer insult with blood, and are reputedly impossible to surprise from behind.

The Gral are a tribal people of Seven Cities, living from the Ehrlitan foothills of Arifal down to Pan'potsun. Outsiders call them primitive and backward, pointing to their warrior castes, their cults of blood, and their worship of violence. They give the occupying Malazan forces no deference, bargain without compromise, and answer any insult they perceive quickly and harshly, frequently provoking others in order to pursue a vendetta. It is said they cannot be surprised from behind. They wear thin bleached linen robes with the hood drawn up, and use gothar flowers to bleach deer hides. Cotillion finds them a rather unpleasant tribe. Their history reaches back at least to the First Empire, and tribal legend tells of Sidilack of the Bhok'ar clan, who served in the armies of Dessimbelackis. They make capable trackers, skirmishers, and shock troops.
