Genabackis Campaign

The Genabackis Campaign is the Malazan Empire's long attempt to conquer the continent of Genabackis, begun on the northwest coast and fought for more than twelve years under High Fist Dujek Onearm from the continental capital at Genabaris. Against it stand the Free Cities, the warlord Caladan Brood, the mercenaries of the Crimson Guard, the Mott Irregulars and the Tiste Andii of Moon's Spawn under Anomander Rake. The early fighting in country such as Blackdog Forest is remembered as the First Campaigns. By 1163 Burn's Sleep the Empire holds a wide band of the north and eight of the ten Free Cities, but the 5th Army has been pushed back along the northern edge of the Rhivi Plain and bogged down in Blackdog for four years, while the 2nd Army has sat before the walls of Pale for three. Most of the soldiers doing the fighting are Seven Cities natives, and imperial recruiters scour the Empire's backwaters for fresh bodies.
