Genabackis

Genabackis is a continent of the Malazan world and the setting of Gardens of the Moon. The Malazan Empire wages a long campaign of conquest here against the alliance once known as the Free Cities; only Pale and Darujhistan still stand outside imperial control. The war draws in mercenary companies and stranger powers, from the warlord Caladan Brood and the Crimson Guard in the north to the Tiste Andii of Moon's Spawn. Beyond the battle lines the continent holds the Rhivi plains, the mountain holds of the Moranth, the tribal ranges of the Barghast, and southern lands the empire has never reached. The Meningalle Ocean bounds Genabackis to the west and the Rust Ocean to the east.
