The Deragoth, or Hounds of Darkness, are seven beasts black as midnight and big enough to rival the wild antlered cattle.
There are seven of them, by Osric's account: the beasts with whom Dessimbelackis made a pact, an alliance that shook the Nameless Ones, and the Seven Holy Cities keep only their number, not the first cities themselves. Where Osric dwells, three skykeeps have arrived in his time and none survived them. Told that two of the hounds are loose, Quick Ben wonders who broke their chains.
