Crippled God

The Crippled God, also named the Chained One and the Fallen One, first enters the Malazan Book of the Fallen in Gardens of the Moon, its opening book, through an ancient tome read in a Darujhistan study. The old account tells of a god called down to earth in a distant age, crippled by the descent, and chained by a vast gathering of the world's powers; lands were sundered in the process, and the list of those present at the chaining runs so long that the reader half expects his own grandmother's name on it. He is a god from outside the world, and his epithets describe his condition rather than his nature: crippled, chained, fallen. In the early books he exists at the edge of things, a name in old histories invoked by scholars and priests who know little more than the story of the Fall itself.
