Cotillion, the Rope, is the patron god of assassins and companion of Shadowthrone in the newly risen House of Shadow, a quiet, exact power meddling in Malazan affairs from the opening of Gardens of the Moon.
Cotillion, also called the Rope, is the patron god of assassins. He is the constant companion of Ammanas, called Shadowthrone, ruler of the House of Shadow, and the two are new to their power; those who consult the Deck of Dragons remark that Shadow's House has only lately taken its place among the others. Where Shadowthrone is theatrical, Cotillion is quiet and exact, a hooded figure with a coiled rope and a plain knife at his hips, resolute in his purposes and disinclined to explain them. He is not known to lie or to break his word. He takes a hand in the affairs of the Malazan Empire, whose Empress he and his companion count as an enemy.
