Burn is the Elder Goddess of the earth, known as the Lady of the Earth, the Sleeping Goddess and the Great Mother, and she is named in Gardens of the Moon. Common belief across Quon Tali holds that she slumbers beneath the land, and that every tremor felt through the rock is her stirring. The Seti call such tremors Burn's Pain.
The Malazan calendar counts its years by her sleep, so that dates across the empire are given in years of Burn's Sleep. She is the patron deity of the city of Li Heng, and among the Drenn her symbol is a circle set above a horizon line. Tennes, the Path of the Land, is the warren associated with her.
