Baudin is a Malazan prisoner thrown together with Felisin Paran and the historian Heboric after the Cull. He is huge and bestial, with small, narrow-set eyes and, as one description has it, all the makings of a common criminal. He loses his right ear early on and grows a beard afterwards. For an apparent thug he is surprisingly well informed about the history and workings of the Malazan Empire, and he is a man of few words with a self-control and endurance that neither heat nor hunger seems to touch.
