Bastion stands on the frontier of the Pannion Domin, a small city in central Genabackis lying southwest of Coral near the Godswalk Mountains. It sits on an inland sea that is shrinking and was once fresh; the water has turned so salty within a single generation that no sailor can drown in it, and the retreating shoreline has stranded the city's stilted docks high and dry over struggling weeds. The only fish left are enormous eels with the jaws of wolves. Squat walls enclose dull-faced, block-like tiered buildings with shuttered windows, and the public buildings are so plainly utilitarian that the culture looks devoid of any creative flair. The main road ends at an expansive round dominated by an imposing temple. Shanties and hovels crowd the ground outside the walls, and the town of Heath lies two days east by road.
